Spring 2002
The owners of Shannon 39 #5 Loon ask Walt Schulz for a light air downwind sail without all the trauma of raising and lowering it with a short-handed crew. Walt came up with a solution after looking at the latest ideas on multihulls - a specially constructed drifter with a wire luff on a lightweight furler drum. The drifter tacks and jibes through the slot, and can stay up furled in most situations, but can be easily lowered and stowed away, furling drum and all, in a high wind situation..
