SHANNON'S PASSAGMAKERS
June,1984
Spence Langford aboard his Shannon 38 #14 Summersalt finishes 10th out of 25 boats in the 1984 OSTAR single-handed transatlantic race. Spence beat every other cruising boat in the race, and after his return, he began a North Atlantic cruising odyssey with his wife Dale that would total more than 175,000 miles by the year 2000.

Marsh and Fran Damerall (shown above) complete a 3 year, 38,000 mile circumnaviation aboard their Shannon 38 #12 Invictus, making landfall in the fog at Block Island.

As the Dameralls were finishing up, Bob and Curlie Engdahl were beginning their circumnavigation aboard Shannon 38 #50 Piper. The Engdahls planned a more leisurely pace, with regular visits back to the States, but intended to do it the hard way: west to east, rather than east with the trade winds as the Dameralls had done.
